SEO is the art of getting your website to appear in Google when your prospective customers search for what you do. For example if you ran a chocolate shop, good SEO would be ensuring that your website appeared (ranked) on page one for “Chocolate shop Andover”, “Best Chocolates Andover” or even “How to say sorry cheaply Andover”.
We frequently emphasise Andover SEO because we specialise in both national and local SEO, ensuring businesses maximise their visibility at every level. Local SEO is the practice of optimising your website based on your physical location, often leading to lower costs and higher performance particularly for independent businesses operating in a specific region.
The Competitive Advantage of Local SEO
For local businesses, optimising for your actual location provides a significant advantage over large corporations that do not have a presence in the immediate area. While major brands invest millions annually in SEO and dominate generic searches like “chocolate” (hello, Hotel Chocolat and Thorntons), they cannot replicate a local presence.
Google actively prioritises genuine local businesses in search results because:
Local Relevance Matters – Google aims to serve results that are most relevant to the searcher’s intent. If someone searches for “Chocolate Shop Andover”, Google assumes they are looking for a nearby shop—not one in Milton Keynes or Edinburgh.
Physical Location Boosts Visibility – If a competitor’s local presence is unclear, your business may outrank them even if they are physically close by. Google rewards businesses with clear and accurate location data.
Location-Based Searches Give You an Edge – When users search in Google Maps or similar location-based apps, Google prioritises businesses that are closest to them, even for broad queries like “Chocolate Shop” or “Best Chocolates”. This means that a business physically near the searcher is more likely to appear at the top of results.
The Power of Local SEO for Small Businesses
Even if your website is not as extensively optimised as a large competitor with a £1M+ SEO budget, you can still secure Page 1 rankings and often outrank them when Google recognises that the searcher is in your area or looking for businesses in your location.
By leveraging strategic local SEO, your business can effectively compete with national brands, ensuring potential customers find your services when they need them most.
No business wants to be at the bottom of search results—and if they do, they certainly don’t want to be paying for it. Some may believe that appearing on page two of search results (SERP No.2) is still a viable position, but in reality, it isn’t. Visibility drops exponentially the further down the rankings you go.
Simply put, search traffic follows a pattern:
➡ No one, no one, no one, no one, a few people… EVERYONE.
The Importance of Page 1 Rankings
Consider this: if you search for “Chocolate Shop Andover”, and Google’s first page presents a list of highly relevant results (as it is designed to do), would you bypass them to check page two? Unlikely. Google’s entire business model revolves around delivering the most relevant results upfront, meaning users rarely go beyond the first page.
This is why we always aim for first-page rankings with our SEO packages. Our strategies ensure your business appears where potential customers are actually looking, maximising your visibility and driving real results.

Aside from your CV why should we believe you can do SEO well?
Well we we’re hoping that the way you found this page was on Google search results so we were doing something right!
Moving on, so what exactly is SEO?
SEO or Search Engine Optimisation, is making changes to your site with the intention of helping it to rank (appear higher) on SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages) like Google’s when people search for a short or long tailed keyword (word or phrase) that relates to your website. Basically if your site has really good SEO you’ll be top of the page when someone searches for a keyword you’ve optimised your site for. If your site has poor SEO, you’ll be lucky if you rank anywhere near the top 50.
Is SEO important?
Very important! The numbers fluctuate between 89% and 95% depending on who you ask but that’s the amount of people who click a search result on the first page only. If you don’t rank in Google due to poor SEO in the top ten results (which is usally as many as on Page one but this can vary) you’ll only be seen by between 11% and 5% of your potential customers.
Is SEO expensive?
As a thing to do, no it shouldn’t be. However it can be quite time consuming to do it properly. If you have a massive site with 100s of keywords you want to optimise it’ll cost more, a lot more. It also scales with the competition within any given area. The issue is that most people who “do” SEO buy expensive plugins to do the work for them. Whilst we’re not against plugins or time savers it’s normally because they don’t understand the fundamentals and are unable to fill in the gaps when the inevitable happpens.
Are there any quick SEO tips you could share with us even if we don’t hire you?
Of course! The number one thing that lets people down from an SEO perspective is not knowing what they want to rank for. We recommend whether you hire us or not to go through your website and work out the keywords that you want customers to use to find you in Google results. You can then either give that list to an agency to start building on or do it yourself.
Feels like there’s more you could tell us?
Well I mean yes: separate out your keywords across pages to avoid cannibalisation, ensure your meta tags are up to date, ensure you’ve marked up your page data to tell Google what type of business you are, ensure you have address information on there as far as possible, check what linking opportunities there are open to you, definitely make sure your business is on Google my Business.
Is there anything I can do that guarantees a good SEO position on Google?
Well from a “gaming the system” point of view, yes however it’s not always recommended. You’ll get there if Google decides that your website is a good match to the keyword that a customer is searching for. Simply take every best practice step possible, make sure Google sees the best version of your page, make sure it’s technically great as far as your budget allows, make sure other people also think it’s great (and show this by linking to your site), and keep it up to date! Your SEO results should (we can’t guarantee anything as we don’t own Google) keep improving over time!
What’s with the Andover/ Local Areas discount?
We live near Andover and care about the businesses in the area, not least because we use them and love to shop locally.
For getting this far, checkout these common SEO "tricks".
What are some common SEO Tricks?
Google rankings are sadly never guaranteed no matter how well optimised your site might be from a technical & content perspective. Below we’ll talk about some common SEO tricks and how occasionally we might get outranked in Google for “Andover SEO“. This is honestly largely here for SEO optimisation ourselves. If you wish to read on, hope you find it mildly amusing!
Pretending you’re from somewhere you’re not
We’re not going to lie this is one of the most common things that people do to game local SEO. You would be surprised how many people consider Essex, Surrey, London or even Manchester to be “near Andover”, some go as far as to say Competitor are a friendly team of search engine optimisation (SEO) specialists in Andover working out of our offices in the Andover except they’re based in Bath and London. However there’s a reason these underhand techniques where “we’re an SEO Agency based near Andover” appears in almost every description on page one of Google. Google hasn’t yet rolled out a way of penalising people who are in, compared to people who aren’t in a particular location. We sense that this may happen in the future but until then this technique works annoyingly well for internet or non-location based services like SEO as delivery isn’t as much of an issue.
Repetition, Deviation and Variation
We’re going to quote one of our competitors here; they’ve realised that you get penalised for repeating the same words over and over again but they’re happy to co-locate common variations on a theme at the top of the page. Have a guess which phrases/ keywords they’re trying to appear in Google for: Let’s make an assumption you are on this page because you need help with SEO, you probably have been searching for, “SEO Agency Andover”, “SEO Service Andover”, or “SEO Company Andover” in any of our locations, and you must have surely noticed that we rank above most other “SEO companies”, if you can even call them that. Ooh and a nice dig, careful guys!
Talk about the keyword
“So you need SEO do you? Did you search for a reliable SEO Company in Andover Hampshire? We’re an award winning, professional SEO Agency specialising in local SEO for Andoverbased businesses, generating great results for a fraction of the cost. If you’re a business owner, solo professional or even an individual setting up their first website and would like help with SEO which doesn’t break the bank and does result in great SEO outcomes, contact us today!”
The above might well look familiar to you. As Google does this thing where it only has 10 different spots in it’s Search Engine Results pages [and sometimes less], in today’s highly competitive environment it can be really difficult to get your keywords to rank on the first page even if you’re an SEO expert. I mean we’re an SEO expert but all these grey hat [not good but not quite as bad as black hat] techniques annoy us deeply. So people often go to the edge of what’s called “over-optimisation” which is they’ll annoy the heck out of Google by posting lots of variants of keywords at the top of the page so it appears really relvant and then temper that by adding lots of content below the fold which barely uses the target keyword at all. It works because as a ratio it doesn’t “over-optimise” but reads as weird as heck when customers come to the site from the SERP (search engine results page). We don’t recommend copying them as they’re a Google update away from getting bounced off and that’s a big risk to take with your business. As experienced SEO professionals we can give you the edge you need to appear at the top on the results page without taking the risk.
Our Andover based SEO experts look after loads of SEO campaigns at minimal costs to the individuals concerned, and we’re well recommended. If you’re interested in learning more about the businesses we’ve grown to over 10 position 1, page 1 keyword results, drop us a line and let us know! We love to share our SEO success stories.
If you happen to go with a different Andover SEO agency, then good luck, but please make sure they’re not based somewhere completely different, actually care about local businesses and won’t use SEO methods which result in your site being penalised for the years to come.
Cover your credentials
We’re so great at SEO it’s probably why you found us when searching for “SEO assistance”.
You came here through SEO, didn’t you, didn’t you? That’s because we’re amazing at working with Google, Bing & other search engines.
We’re the very best search engine optimisation agency that you could hire for your small business or company because of how fab we are at relevent keywords.
We’ve got proven strategies, life-hacks and smoothie recipies [we got bored parroting them] that’ll make your SEO Andover business go bananas!
We never make fake claims about how good our SEO abilities are, so definitely rely on us for visibility and future optimisation on Google. We’re so good you found us through search.
It very likely that you have enjoyed some of these great claims when searching for SEO agencies. Whilst SEO takes up a lot of time, and is very easy to get wrong it’s also not consistently difficult. Google doesn’t want to make SEO hard at the end of the day. It simply wants to serve relevant search results to customers who search for relevant key words otherwise no one would use it; a sure fire way to lose money.
What’s the point in pointing that out? It’s that agencies who are “so great” at SEO are a) rarely in first position, and b) doing so with absolutely no guarantee that their “proven strategy” will continue to work.
I’ll repeat point b) any SEO company worth it’s salt will not only never make false claims or guarantees, because they will also make it really darn obvious that they can’t guarantee anything (they don’t own Google).
So whilst we can’t guarantee results, we can point to our record, and promise you that we’ll do everything possible to replicate those results for your site (plus we’re experts).
Compare to something you don’t do
Have we told you that our search engine optimisation services are an even better way to get your site online than using pay per click services or display advertising? No then let us begin to compare against these forms of marketing that you’re probably not immediately interested in unless you have a large established budget to support yourself.
We could talk for a while about the benefits of SEO vs PPC, largely as you’ll find that PPC often works most effectively in search when your budget is somewhat above £100 per month, yet our SEO support starts from only 99p per keyword for tracking. That’s an amazing return on your organic search investment, particularly when you consider we almost always get our partners onto the first page of Google.
Andover businesses realise page one on Google is a competitive place – and many nationwide companies dominate the results. Small Beans, put you there.
